Long Island City, NY October 15, 2012 -
Acclaimed Bucharest Restaurant, "The Little Paris", participated in the annual 'Taste of Sunnyside' sponsored by the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce and Sunnyside Shines BID.
Over 400 people from the Sunnyside and other New York City communities were given a sample of the luscious, traditional Romanian home cooked dinner that is prepared by Chef Helena and always offered at Bucharest Restaurant at 43-45 40th Street in Sunnyside.
Foodie, and NYC City Council Member, Jimmy Van Bramer, a resident of Sunnyside; came to the special Bucharest Restaurant table to taste the Stuffed Cabbage and Polenta. As Chair of NYC's Cultural Affairs, Libraries & International Intergroup Relations, Van Bramer is very interested in multi-cultural affairs. He is familiar with the menu of Bucharest Restaurant and it cultural importance in the community. He had been to the Bucharest Restaurant, but had not tried the Stuffed Cabbage. Arthur Rosenfield, OurLIC, asked the Council Member to taste the Romanian Stuffed Cabbage and compare it to Irish Stuffed Cabbage. Upon tasting the Stuffed Cabbage from Bucharest Restaurant, Van Bramer said "Wow! It is delicious. This is really very good. This is terrific!" Van Bramer's grandmother is Irish and he was set to compare the Romanian version of Stuffed Cabbage with memories of his grandmother's Irish Stuffed Cabbage. After his second taste he said "That is very good...really very good."
The event was a successful way to introduce people from the community to many different restaurants that are Sunnyside. It is also an opportunity for leaders in the community and restaurant owners to come together. Shown in another photo is Vasile Badaluta with restaurant owner Lily Gavin of Dazies Restaurant, and merchant Patrice Lee, Owner, April Glass across the street from Bucharest Restaurant.
Vasile Badaluta, owner of Bucharest Restaurant, is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Long Island City / Astoria Chamber of Commerce. A recent news article in OurLIC.com profiled Mr. Badaluta as “A Renaissance Man”.
